TEXT: Luke 10:35-37
In Week 4 of our And Justice For All series, we consider what God has to say about poverty. Proverbs 21:13 says, "Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered." This Sunday we will open our ears and discover how God has called and equipped us to love, serve, and bless the poor from a heart transformed by Christ who became poor for us.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
HEAD: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR MINDS TO HELP US UNDERSTAND GOD’S WORD.
Describe all of the acts and attitudes of mercy you see in the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).
We tend to think of our neighbors as those in the immediate vicinity of where we live. According to Jesus, who is our neighbor? How does this challenge your way of thinking?
HEART: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR AFFECTIONS TO HELP US LOVE GOD
Before we are able to give mercy to those in need, what needs to happen in our own lives? Do you see where change in your own life is needed?
In what way is Christ our model for mercy? Reflect on 2 Corinthians 8:9 for help.
HANDS: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR HANDS TO HELP US LIVE FOR GOD (PERSONALLY, COMMUNALLY, AND MISSIONALLY)
As a Gospel Community, identify opportunities to serve the poor around you. This will need to be an ongoing conversation that requires prayer, wisdom, and resolve.
Look at your budget. Are there things you can sacrifice in order to have more resources to give to those in need? Is there room for intentional generosity?
Make a list of your talents and resources, and consider the needs around you. Is there a place where your talents and the resources and the needs around you intersect?
