TEXT - John 14:1-17
In this passage, Jesus encourages his followers to not be troubled, shares his second to last “I am” statement and promises the Holy Spirit to his disciples and to us. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and none can come to the Father but through him. May this convict and encourage us to embrace the gospel of Christ.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
HEAD: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR MINDS TO HELP US UNDERSTAND GOD’S WORD.
What is troubling the disciples at this time? How does Jesus respond?
What does the way, the truth and the life actually mean?
Take a look at verses 13 and 14. Do you think that Jesus will give us whatever we ask for? What do you think Jesus meant when he said this? Do any of the nearby verses help clarify or provide context?
HEART: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR AFFECTIONS TO HELP US LOVE GOD
How is the promise of the Holy Spirit in verse 17 and the declaration by Jesus that he is the way, the truth and the life, an encouragement to both the disciples and to us as we try to walk and live in faith?
How can we be encouraged as the disciples were encouraged by Jesus’ command: let not your hearts be troubled?
HANDS: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR HANDS TO HELP US LIVE FOR GOD (PERSONALLY, COMMUNALLY, AND MISSIONALLY)
Jesus says that whoever believes in him will also do the works that he does. How do you do the works that Jesus did? Is this an area that you can grow in, that our gospel communities or church could grow in?
Do you ever feel like Phillip and wish for the Father to come down on earth so that you can see him? How can we live with confidence and encourage ourselves and others in the faith?
