Romans 8:33-34 // Answering Accusation

In these verses, Paul continues to ask rhetorical questions to reiterate the power of God's love against all that oppose his children. Who shall bring a charge? Who can condemn? All accusers —Satan, circumstances, sins—fade alongside the risen Christ who intercedes for us at God’s right hand.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

THINKING: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR MINDS TO HELP US UNDERSTAND GOD’S WORD.

  • Paul teaches here with two questions. What are the answers to each of these questions? Rephrase the passage in statement form.

  • Who are God’s elect? Read Ephesians 1:4-13 and Deuteronomy 7:6

FEELING: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR AFFECTIONS TO HELP US LOVE GOD

  • What has Jesus done and what is he doing for the Christian in these verses?

  • How does the truth of God as the one who justifies encourage you in your daily life?

DOING: QUESTIONS AIMED AT OUR HANDS TO HELP US LIVE FOR GOD (PERSONALLY, COMMUNALLY, AND MISSIONALLY)

  • How do you currently answer accusations in your life? How can you change that reaction (if needed) in light of this passage?

  • How should the truth of these verses guard what we say to one another in the church family? How should we draw a line between falling into gossip and sin and sincerely seeking to help strengthen a person who is falling into sin?
