As Jesus' ministry continues on, his miracles grow more astonishing. His bold words in this passage are staggering. As Jesus speaks and ministers- the opposition from the religious authorities begins to increase. Who is this Jesus? What doe his miracles and words reveal to us about his purpose? How should we respond?

4:46-50 records the interaction between Jesus and the official. What does the response of Jesus in verse 48 tell us about the official’s faith?
What are the differences between the official in need of healing for his son in Chapter 4 (The Second Sign of Jesus) and the lame man in need of healing in Chapter 5? What’s the recurring theme we are seeing in John’s Gospel as Jesus interacts with others?

How do the religious leaders respond to the work of Jesus? Read Matthew 23:2-4. Considering these two passages, how is the response of the religious leaders a warning to us about the difference between knowing things about God vs. knowing and loving God?
In 5:14 Jesus tells the healed man, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.” What does this tell us about the nature of sin and our greatest need? How does Jesus meet this need?

Notice the increase of the official’s faith as Jesus healed his son (4:49, 50, 53). What are some specific areas of your life where you would like to see your faith in Jesus grow? How will this happen?
The healing ministry of Jesus models for us the compassion of God for those in need. What ways can you put this into practice in your life and as a Gospel Community?
