As Peter prepares to end his letter, he shifts his focus back to elders and leaders. He reminds them how to lead God’s flock and then exhorts the church to humble themselves under those whom God gives authority.

Why does Peter preface his exhortation to elders by commenting on what he has witnessed and what he will partake of (5:1)? How should this influence the way we read his words?
Who are these exhortations directed towards? How does the imagery of shepherds expand your understanding of their role?
Why do you think we (the church) need elders/pastors? Is the Bible not enough? Should we be subject to all elders?

Do you find it hard to accept that we need shepherds/elders? How do we see God’s care for us in his appointing of elders and church leaders?
Read verses 5-6. Why is humility such an important ingredient in order for the church to thrive? Which way does grace flow in these verses? How are we able to be recipients of God’s grace?
