In the fourth and final week of our Advent series, we look at Luke 2:8-14. So far we have considered where Jesus has come from- he is the Son of God, Son of Joseph, and Son of Mary. This week we consider the word of the angel who tells us that this Jesus is for all the people. Christ came to make his blessings flow among all nations.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
HEAD: Questions aimed at our minds to help us understand God’s word.
Unknown Shepherds are the first recipients of the news of Christ’s birth. What do you think is the significance of this?
In his message to the shepherds, an angel ascribes to Jesus three titles: Savior, Christ, and Lord (Luke 2:11). What does each title emphasize?
HEART: Questions aimed at our affections to help us love God
The shepherds are fearful of the appearance of the angel and the surrounding glory. According to the angel, why should they not fear? How is this an encouragement to you in moments of fear in your life?
Read verse 14 again. How is the glory of God connected to your peace?
HANDS: Questions aimed at our hands to help us live for God (Personally, Communally, and Missionally)
This good news of great joy is for all the people (the nations!). Reflect on who shared the gospel with you (ie. your testimony). How have you been a recipient of this good news?
Consider those around you who do not yet know this good news of great joy. How are you participating in the mission of God to bring the gospel to them? What ‘next steps’ can you take?
